killing mode
Government minister Rory Stewart (above) is in a killing mode, according to today`s Times newspaper. Many of his Longtown (Cumbria) constituents are hoping that this mode will extend to their shambolic landlord.

The constituents say that the landlord, Riverside Housing Association deserves to be killed off for two reasons.

First, for a heating scandal and second for allowing its properties to be let to dozens of undesirable tenants.

Riverside has brought criminality to Longtown, say the constituents.

Both issues have in the past been brought to the attention of Mr Stewart who is MP for Penrith and The Border and also a Foreign Office Minister. In today`s Times he is quoted as saying that nearly all Britons who join Islamic State should be killed.

“Killing British jihadists`is the only option` says the headline on the story.

The same headline could  equally apply to the Merseyside based  profit-making property development  company, Riverside.

It owns 50.000 homes nationwide including 60 dodgy Longtown properties in which five years ago badly –fitting boilers were installed  in properties which were also unsuitable.

Soon after the scandal broke Mr Stewart held meetings with tenants but was unable to  help because it is believed, he was given the runaround by the then  Riverside Carlisle regional director Mr Dean Butterworth.

Today, those 60 properties are still dodgy and still  producing  energy bills for tenants of £4,000 or more.

That  scandal is bad enough but equally worrying  are the undesirable tenants for these properties brought in by Riverside.

Most types of criminality have been recorded by these tenants… from vandalism to serious assaults, Carlisle Tenants` and Residents` Federation heard  at its October meeting.

“The police are never away from these properties” the Federation was told by  an activist  member of the protest group, Longtown Action for Heat.

Carlisle Tenants` and Residents` Federation publishes this blog. Information about the Federation is available on 01228 522277 or 01228 532803
